Your Divorce Settlement is Only the Beginning | Becoming Educated in Your Finances Post-Divorce

Guest Blog: Stephanie Thompson-Buttice FP® Professional | CDFA® Professional | Fee-Only Fiduciary | Dave Ramsey SmartVestor Pro

I have spent more than 17 years in the financial services industry, helping individuals and families navigate some of life’s biggest financial decisions and transitions.

Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of working alongside clients through retirement planning, divorce, the loss of a loved one, business ownership, education planning, and other significant seasons of change.

As a working mother, former business owner, and the financial head of my own household, I understand that financial decisions rarely happen in isolation. They are often connected to family, career, relationships, goals, and the life you are working to build.

Today, my work is centered around three key areas:

Comprehensive Financial Planning for individuals and families who want a clear, coordinated plan for retirement, investments, taxes, cash flow, and long-term goals.

Divorce Financial Planning for those who need thoughtful financial guidance during or after divorce, including support around assets, retirement accounts, housing decisions, cash flow, and the long-term impact of settlement options.

SmartVestor Guidance for individuals and families who have worked hard to build a strong financial foundation and are ready for more strategic support around investing, retirement, taxes, and the next stage of their financial plan.

As a CFP® and CDFA®, my approach is comprehensive, personal, and grounded in listening first. I want my clients to understand their options, feel confident in their decisions, and have a financial plan that reflects both where they are today and where they want to go.

Many of my clients come to me with questions like:

  • Am I financially prepared for retirement?

  • Will my money last throughout retirement?

  • Should I consolidate old 401(k)s or retirement accounts?

  • How will divorce affect my long-term financial future?

  • Can I afford to keep the house after divorce?

  • How should I think about taxes, investments, and Social Security together

  • I’ve followed the Baby Steps. What should I be doing next?

  • How can I turn the wealth I have built into long-term financial security?

  • How do I find an advisor who will actually listen and understand what matters to me?

My goal is not simply to manage investments. It is to help clients gain clarity, understand the bigger picture, and move forward with greater confidence and peace of mind.

Clients often tell me they value my responsiveness, my willingness to listen carefully, and the fact that I genuinely care about helping them succeed. If you are navigating retirement, divorce, or looking for a more comprehensive financial plan, I would be glad to help you understand your options and build a thoughtful path forward.
